Wandering Yogyakarta [ Prawirotaman ]

Gembira Lola Zoo - Jogja (2024)

One day me and monkey sat down and discuss for our upcoming holiday. It’s a school holiday basically so yeah it will be almost 3 weeks no school and oh I’m so excited to arrange her activities during the holiday. As an active kid, monkey constantly needs to spend her energy so that she can sleep well every night. Lol.

First of all, we count out our saving (not to brag but we do have our commitment to saving some money to our holiday piggy bank). After we know the total money then we start to count the cost. For a while I thought maybe we can go some place that we (as traveloro) never been before. So I’m thinking about backpacking to Yogyakarta. And she said yes!

The rain was pretty this morning as our mini-bus (we take public transport from Surabaya to Yogyakarta) take us from the station. we spent the total of 5hours on the way, I almost lost it as my tummy feel silly (my bad taking back seat instead of front). After arrive at Yogyakarta’s station we continue the trip by motorbike taxi. After we check-in to the small motel @ Prawirotaman, we decided to take a walk and have something to eat. I’m so happy that our room only cost us around $10/ night with a pool view. Don’t get me wrong, this motels also provide good room with the Aircon for $25/night. I just choose to stay in the small room with small fan and sharing bathroom. Lucky us, Prawirotaman also known as the Seminyak of Yogyakarta. Here, monkey can practicing her English with all the foreigners.

Day I activity:

- eating noodle godhog nearby the motel

- cafe hopping @ Monggo Cafe (also nearby)

- mandatory picture near Malioboro road sign

- take out dinner the famous Olive Chicken

One corner @ Taman Sari Park (2024)

Batik Museum (2024)

Wake up in the morning with the spirit of swimming and get tan, but then gloomy weather take us back to our room and getting ready to wandering Keraton area. Since the area was so huge, we decide to go by Becak, the Bapak was so nice to us, we pay around $2 for 3 places @ Keraton, he even took us to Museum Batik nearby Keraton, and if we wanted to bought the famous Bakpia as well. The bapak also patiently wait for us when we still enjoy the Keraton. He left after he drop us to Taman Sari Park. After the Keraton, we go to Mall and visiting (actually just taking some pictures with all the action figure collection there), these famous cafe @Ambarukmo Plaza. After that we going back to the motel, monkey needed more swimming so she insisted we go back to the motel right away. Around 5 to 6 PM we go out and going to Malioboro street, strolling through the street and bcos of schools holiday, Malioboro st like ocean of human. We strongly recommend you to go Yogyakarta before or after the holiday season, so u can enjoy Malioboro and all Yogyakarta in romantic or magical ways.

Day II activity:

- Swimming

- breakfast near Keraton

- explore Keraton Yogyakarta

- cafe hopping around Taman Sari Park

- more swimming

- lunch at Ambarukmo Plaza

- church

- going back to Malioboro area, Malioboro Mall as well  taking more picture together

Affogato Tempuran Space (2024)

This morning we started with swimming obviously, while I check our Landry (yes we do wash the shirt and all and hang the wet shirt in-front of the room). I hope our  shirt is ready so we can start to packing our backpack. Also since we do backpacking, we didn’t have too many things inside the bags. What I mean is that packing wasn’t the real issue here. The actual factual issue is that we want to extend our stay. After swimming we walk 200meter to Prawirotaman traditional market to eat breakfast (our motel didn’t serve breakfast or any course of meal). I eat homemade food while monkey decide to order Soto Seger. After this we’re agree to go to the Zoo with maximum 2-3hour there. Going to the zoo such a hurry bcos we already book our train tickets and I don’t want to missed the train. After Zoo, we checking out from the motel. Overall the Motel still the best choice, bcos with only a little we can enjoy swimming, and casual conversation with all the foreigners that we met there.

Day III activity:

- swimming

- breakfast @ Prawirotaman traditional market

- more swimming

- going to GL Zoo

- packing and checking out

- cafe hopping @ Tempuran Space

- Malioboro area, strolling, taking pictures

- Train Station and go back to Surabaya

Will update it (hopefully) regularly

With love,

Monk :*
